Overview

The Revopoint MetroY Ultra Standard Edition is a professional handheld and desktop-capable blue-light 3D scanner designed for dimensional inspection, quality control, reverse engineering, product development, and other engineering workflows where repeatable geometry matters more than simple visual capture.

MetroY Ultra combines multi-line blue laser scanning with full-field structured blue light and provides five scanning modes:

The scanner supports a working distance of 200–400 mm, a recommended scan range from about 10 × 10 × 10 mm to 2 × 2 × 2 m, and scan rates up to 3,000,000 points/s in multi-line laser mode or 7,000,000 points/s in full-field structured-light mode.

The Standard Edition includes the scanner, dual-axis turntable, calibration board, 500 markers, tripod, carrying case, USB cable, power adapter, and the fourth-generation Mobile Kit. The CMM-certified ball plate and one-year Revo Measure license are not included with the Standard Edition; those are CMM Edition additions.

Technical Specifications

Important: Accuracy, precision, fused point distance, and volumetric accuracy are different metrics. The 0.05 mm fused point-distance figure is not 0.05 mm dimensional accuracy.

Note: Revopoint's accuracy and precision figures are measured under controlled laboratory conditions. Calibration, temperature, surface condition, tracking, setup, and operator technique can affect real results.

Five Scanning Modes

34 Crossed Blue Laser Lines

The crossed-line mode is the fastest laser workflow and is well suited to medium industrial parts, castings, housings, tooling, and automotive components. Revopoint publishes up to 3,000,000 points/s for multi-line laser scanning.

Laser-line scanning uses Marker or Global Marker tracking.

15 Parallel Blue Laser Lines

The parallel-line mode prioritizes fine geometry and edge definition. It is a strong fit for machined components, brackets, detailed castings, and mechanical interfaces where local detail matters more than broad coverage.

Single Blue Laser Line

The single-line mode is designed for:

• Grooves
• Narrow recesses
• Grilles
• Small internal features

A dedicated single-line mode gives MetroY Ultra a more specialized deep-feature workflow than scanners focused only on broad multi-line coverage.

Full-Field Structured Blue Light

Full-field mode uses 62 blue structured-light lines and can capture up to 7,000,000 points/s.

Unlike laser-line scanning, this mode can use Feature, Marker, or Global Marker tracking. It is useful when the part has enough natural geometry and applying reflective markers would slow the workflow.

Auto Turntable Mode

The included dual-axis turntable supports automated desktop scanning for small parts and repeatable capture.

Color scanning is currently supported through Auto Turntable Mode. Revopoint lists additional laser-line color functionality as software-dependent future support, so color should not be presented as available in every scan mode.

Accuracy, Precision, and Volumetric Accuracy

MetroY Ultra's core measurement specifications are:

Accuracy describes closeness to the true value under the stated test. Precision describes repeatability. Volumetric accuracy becomes more important as the scanned object gets larger because alignment and accumulated positional error matter across distance.

Software and Measurement Workflow

Revo Metro

Revo Metro is the included scanner-control and post-processing software. It handles scanning, point-cloud monitoring, fusion, alignment, editing, meshing, texture processing, and export.

Revopoint does not list third-party software as an alternative scanner-control application for MetroY Ultra.

Revo Measure

Revo Measure is the optional measurement and inspection package for dimensional measurement, GD&T, deviation analysis, and reporting.

A one-year licence is included with the CMM Edition rather than the Standard Edition.

Revo Design

Revo Design is Revopoint's optional scan-to-CAD and reverse-engineering software.

Wireless Scanning

MetroY Ultra supports real-time Wi-Fi 6 scan streaming while using the connected PC's processing power.

The Standard Edition includes the Mobile Kit (4th Gen) with a 5500 mAh battery grip. Revopoint states approximately 2.5 hours of wireless operation under its test conditions.

The scanner does not have a built-in battery. It requires the supplied power adapter or the battery grip.

Outdoor and Difficult-Surface Scanning

MetroY Ultra's multi-line laser modes can operate in ambient light up to 100,000 lux under Revopoint's stated conditions.

Laser-line modes can also capture many dark or shiny parts without scanning spray.

However:

• Transparent surfaces may require spray.
• Mirror-like or strongly specular surfaces may require spray.
• Full-field structured-light mode is more likely to need spray on black, shiny, transparent, or highly reflective objects.

Important: "No spray needed" is not a universal claim across every surface and mode.

Color Capture

MetroY Ultra includes a 2 MP RGB camera.

Current color scanning is mode-limited. Revopoint specifies Auto Turntable Mode as the current color workflow.

For inspection and reverse engineering, geometry is normally more important than texture resolution. Color is mainly useful for visualization and documentation.

The published maximum frame rate depends on workstation hardware.

Revopoint lists up to 90 FPS with supported NVIDIA GPU acceleration and up to 60 FPS with CPU processing.

Safety

MetroY Ultra uses a Class 2M laser projector.

Revopoint warns against looking directly into the laser at close range or through magnifying optical devices.

The manufacturer also states that scanning a person's face is not advisable because of potential direct laser exposure to the eyes.

Warning: Follow Revopoint's current laser-safety instructions, especially around people and reflective objects.
