Detailed Description

# ELEGOO Centauri Carbon 2 Combo

Overview

ELEGOO Centauri Carbon 2 Combo is an enclosed CoreXY FDM printer that pairs the Centauri Carbon 2 platform with ELEGOO's CANVAS four-color filament system. It combines a 256 × 256 × 256 mm build volume, a 350°C hardened-steel nozzle, a 110°C heated bed, automatic calibration, and multi-color filament management in a compact desktop format.

ELEGOO rates the printer for speeds up to 500 mm/s, with 250 mm/s recommended in the current specification table, and up to 20,000 mm/s² maximum acceleration. The extrusion system is rated for up to 32 mm³/s under ELEGOO's stated conditions.

The enclosed chassis uses a thermal cover and an automatically controlled ventilation grille rather than a dedicated chamber heater. This helps manage chamber temperature for different materials, but the printer should not be described as having an actively heated chamber.

The Combo package includes CANVAS for four-color printing. CANVAS adds RFID recognition for compatible ELEGOO filament, automatic refill, tangle detection, and independent spool control. TPU uses a separate workflow: ELEGOO instructs Combo users to install the Flexible Filament Adapter and disconnect the CANVAS cable before printing TPU.

For current pricing and specifications, see the official ELEGOO Centauri Carbon 2 Combo page. For CANVAS details, see the official CANVAS page.

Speed note: ELEGOO's specification table lists printing speed up to 500 mm/s and recommends 250 mm/s. The 500 mm/s value can remain in the structured maximum-print-speed field, but it is not an appropriate speed for every material, geometry, layer height, or quality target.

Noise note: The ≤45 dB figure comes from ELEGOO's test using PLA in Silent Mode with the auxiliary part-cooling fan turned off.

CANVAS Four-Color Printing

The Combo includes ELEGOO's CANVAS filament-management system.

CANVAS supports up to four filament positions and provides automatic color switching, RFID filament detection, automatic refill, tangle detection, and independent spool drive.

ELEGOO RFID-tagged filament can be recognized automatically for material type and color, allowing the printer to apply corresponding recommended settings. Auto refill can continue a job from another spool when multiple matching spools are loaded.

This is the main distinction from the standard Centauri Carbon 2, where CANVAS is an add-on rather than part of the Combo package.

TPU Requires a Different Workflow

TPU is supported by the Centauri Carbon 2 platform, but Combo users should not treat it as a normal CANVAS material.

ELEGOO instructs users to install the Flexible Filament Adapter and disconnect the CANVAS cable before printing TPU. This workflow distinction is more useful than simply listing TPU as compatible.

CANVAS and Fiber-Reinforced Filaments

ELEGOO states that CANVAS is compatible with fiber-reinforced filaments. Because these materials are abrasive, ELEGOO recommends regular inspection and replacement of feed parts during extended use.

The printer itself uses a hardened-steel nozzle, making it better prepared for abrasive filament than machines supplied only with brass nozzles.

For indexed composite examples, compare Prusament PC Blend Carbon Fiber and Prusament PA11 Carbon Fiber. Their thermal and drying requirements should still be checked independently.

350°C Hotend and Material Range

The Centauri Carbon 2 Combo uses a 350°C hardened-steel nozzle and titanium-alloy heat break.

ELEGOO's current Combo material table classifies:

Ideal

  • PLA
  • PETG
  • ABS
  • ASA

Capable

  • TPU
  • PC
  • PA
  • PET
  • Fiber-reinforced filaments

The listing follows the Combo-specific material table rather than importing every material claim from the non-Combo Centauri Carbon 2 page.

A high nozzle temperature does not make every high-temperature polymer automatically practical. Drying, bed adhesion, chamber behavior, nozzle wear, and filament-specific profiles still matter.

Enclosed Chamber and Smart Grille

The printer is fully enclosed and includes a thermal cover plus an automatically controlled ventilation grille.

The grille adjusts airflow for different material workflows. PLA can benefit from more ventilation, while ABS, ASA, PC, and PA generally benefit from a warmer, more stable environment.

The chamber does not use a dedicated active heater, so `hasHeatedChamber` remains `false`.

For more demanding chamber-controlled workflows, compare the Bambu Lab H2D and Creality K2 Plus, both of which use actively heated chambers.

High-Speed CoreXY Motion

ELEGOO uses dual 4260 stepper motors for the X and Y axes, together with metal linear guide rods and a die-cast aluminum frame.

The current performance specification lists:

  • Up to 500 mm/s printing speed
  • 250 mm/s recommended printing speed
  • 10,000 mm/s² default acceleration
  • 20,000 mm/s² maximum acceleration
  • Up to 32 mm³/s extrusion flow

The maximum values are useful machine limits, but real print time is often constrained by extrusion flow, cooling, small features, or material requirements.

Automatic Calibration and Sensors

The Centauri Carbon 2 Combo automates the main setup tasks that traditionally require manual adjustment.

Current functions include:

  • Automatic Z offset
  • 121-point bed leveling
  • Smart partial bed leveling
  • Active vibration compensation
  • Pressure Advance calibration
  • Pre-print checks

ELEGOO also markets a network of 31 smart sensors, including clog detection, filament runout detection, cutter-status monitoring, exhaust-grille monitoring, fan self-checks, bed overheat protection, and power-loss recovery.

Sensor coverage improves monitoring but does not guarantee detection of every print failure.

Build Platform

The printable volume is 256 × 256 × 256 mm, while ELEGOO separately publishes a 260 × 260 mm printing platform size.

That distinction allows the structured build-plate fields to use the verified 260 × 260 mm platform dimensions rather than copying the smaller printable XY area.

The removable build surface is a dual-sided spring-steel plate with a textured PEI side and a PLA-specific surface.

Software and Connectivity

The printer runs ELEGOO OS and supports:

  • ElegooSlicer
  • Orca
  • Cura
  • ELEGOO Matrix
  • Nexprint
  • Wi-Fi transfer
  • USB transfer

ELEGOO lists input support for STL, OBJ, 3MF, and STEP. ElegooSlicer is the manufacturer's recommended slicer.

Centauri Carbon 2 Combo vs Original Centauri Carbon

The indexed ELEGOO Centauri Carbon is the earlier generation.

The Centauri Carbon 2 Combo adds or improves:

  • Included CANVAS four-color printing
  • 350°C nozzle rather than the earlier 320°C-class system
  • RFID filament handling
  • Automatic refill and tangle management
  • Updated sensor coverage
  • Updated ventilation and software workflow

The original Centauri Carbon remains relevant when multi-color printing is unnecessary and lower purchase cost is the priority.

Comparison With Other Desktop Enclosed Printers

The Bambu Lab P2S is a relevant alternative for users comparing compact enclosed multi-color ecosystems.

The Centauri Carbon 2 Combo emphasizes an included four-color system, 350°C hardened nozzle, 256 mm cube build volume, and 31-sensor monitoring at a comparatively accessible price.

For users whose priority is more demanding engineering materials and active chamber control, the Bambu Lab H2D or Creality K2 Plus is the more appropriate comparison.

Price and Availability

The ELEGOO Centauri Carbon 2 Combo is currently listed on ELEGOO’s US store from US$449. Estimated currency equivalents are approximately €388, £332, C$623, A$634, AED 1,649, and ₹42,857.

The Combo includes the CANVAS 4-color printing system, while regional prices may vary due to taxes, VAT, duties, shipping, promotions, and local distributor pricing.

Limitations and Practical Considerations

  • The chamber is enclosed but not actively heated.
  • Four-color printing uses one nozzle and can generate purge waste during color changes.
  • TPU requires the Flexible Filament Adapter and CANVAS to be disconnected.
  • Fiber-filled filament can accelerate wear of CANVAS feed components.
  • ELEGOO recommends 250 mm/s even though the maximum is 500 mm/s.
  • The ≤45 dB result applies to ELEGOO's stated Silent Mode test.
  • Engineering materials still require correct drying and build-surface preparation.
  • RFID recognition depends on compatible ELEGOO RFID-tagged filament.
  • CANVAS manages four filament positions rather than independent toolheads.

Callout Section

Recommended use: Choose the ELEGOO Centauri Carbon 2 Combo when you want an enclosed 256 mm-class CoreXY printer with four-color CANVAS included, a 350°C hardened nozzle, automatic calibration, and useful engineering-material capability without moving into a larger actively heated-chamber platform.
